The Death of Dreamland

by Cross Wires

/

about

In September 2020 Cross Wires played a live stream gig at Hotbox in Chelmsford, Essex. 2 new songs were played for the first time on the night. 'The Death of Dreamland' and '24 Roehampton Street' The skeletal recordings of both tracks were then worked on by producer Rory Attwell and Cross Wires singer Jonathan Chapman in Rory's studio in Homerton, East London (all vocals recorded in the studio) and after some studio wizardry turned in to 2 fully formed tracks.

lyrics

We are all mourners here.
We all carry the weight of someone else’s actions and they become part of us. Changing us slowly over time. Broken pieces put back together that don’t quite fit.
We are all mourners here

I didn’t see it coming on. I didn’t notice til it got close.
I didn’t know it was the end. Until I felt it’s hands around my neck.
You're a prisoner of your own dreamland.
Crushed by the weight of another let down.

We all take a little piece of past loves left behind. Some cast a bigger shadow further over time. Some vague in the distance in lost corners of our minds. Some still stand beside us bathed in desire.

Chaos always reigns supreme. It’s so hard to let go of a dream.
Time is slipping from our grasp. All still tethered to our past. You're a prisoner of your own dreamland.
Crushed by the weight of another let down.

The realisation that I I’m still in love with you makes my blood run cold. What do you do when something falls apart?
Sit around wishing you could go back to the start

We are all mourners here.

“Half way through Yesterday In Mourning, it begins to dawn on you that all Cross Wire’s songs are relatable on first exposure – an underlying sense of familiarity which you can’t always put your finger on leading you down darkly fascinating avenues” - Louder Than War
